ic information

name Bridget McGee O'Henry
age 17
birthday 5 April
bloodline Muggleborn
house Hufflepuff

PB Anna Maria Mühe

parents Alban and Erin O'Henry are nice, normal Muggles who, up until their daughter turned 11, lived nice, normal lives. They've never quite adjusted to the fact that they have a magical daughter.
siblings A three-year-old brother named Martin. Bridget jokes that he's her parents' replacement for her.

personality Bridget has spent her life feeling like she doesn't quite fit in. First growing up with her Muggle parents, she couldn't help feeling that there was something more than the life she had. She was right - she possessed magic and went off to Hogwarts. She hoped that she would finally find the place that she belonged, but that didn't quite happen. While she did feel happier at Hogwarts, she still felt like something of an outsider - she hadn't grown up with the same history, customs or expectations as most of the other kids at Hogwarts. It was an extreme culture shock, and Bridget coped by trying to be the absolute best at everything.

Some of the disconnect was only in Bridget's mind - insecure and nervous, she really projected a lot of what she was feeling onto the people around her, and as an 11-year-old was unable to recognize that and stop it. But her feelings did serve her well in some ways - she worked hard at her schoolwork, determined to get good marks and prove that it didn't matter that her parents were Muggles - she deserved to be at Hogwarts just as much as anybody else.

A Hufflepuff to the core, Bridget succeeds more by pure force of will and hard work than by any natural brilliance. She is smart but not clever, and she is a particular dunce when it comes to mathematics. Because of her single-minded determination, she didn't make friends fast or easily, although she eventually warmed up enough to a few of her housemates. She is a good and loyal friend who can be depended on to stand up for anyone she cares about, consequences be damned. She's also got a huge soft-spot for the underdog, mostly because she sees herself as one, too (although she wouldn't admit that for the world).

Bridget has grown to be jaded and sarcastic, mostly as a defense mechanism to hide her worries about her own future. She's scared to death of having to go out in the real world and find a job and prove herself even more. She just wants to find her place in the world and to be able to stop worrying so much. It likely won't happen - Bridget doesn't realize that she causes a lot of her own distress, and that won't stop simply because she has a job or a nice flat. She'll always find something to worry about and agonize over, as that's just part of who she is.

Despite all of this, Bridget's actually an enjoyable person to be around. She's got a certain charisma and her self-deprecating humour usually helps people warm up to her. Plus, she tells it like it is and can be counted on to not sugar-coat things.

concept The Muggleborn with a point to prove
blurb Bridget is just your average everyday over-achieving, cynical, sarcastic, know-it-all Hufflepuff. Only she's actually slightly more pleasant than that moniker would suggest. She's never felt like she completely fits in at Hogwarts, and because of that she works really hard to prove that she deserves to be there. Who is it she's trying to prove it to? Herself, more than anybody else - Bridget uses her studies and her sense of humour to shield herself from her own insecurities. However, she can be counted on to stand up for people in need, irregardless of the consequences.

There is no limit on the samples, although like I stated above, your samples are the bit that is going to be focused on the most.

Whoever created the "terrible twos" moniker must never have actually had any children. Why? Because the threes are worse. So much worse!

I love my little brother, I really do. But my parents have absolutely no control over him and just let him run wild. And he's learned to open doors himself, so he's taken stuff from my room more than one time. I've finally had to resort to locking the door magically to keep him out, which my parents aren't too pleased about, but maybe if they'd gotten me a door with a real lock on it I wouldn't have to use magic at home. But do they think of it like that? No, of course not. They say I'm not trying hard enough to make Martin a part of my life.

He's my brother, he's already a part of my life! What else do I have to do? Entertain him 24/7? Praise him to high heaven when he doesn't poop in his pants, like my parents do? (That's my parents praising him, not pooping in their pants. My parents are thankfully toilet-trained.)

Nope, sorry, I'm not going to completely change my life because my parents suddenly decided that they just had to have another child.

I can't wait to go back to Hogwarts.

thread sample

Bridget's yearly trip to get her school supplies at Diagon Alley was usually not just boring, but excruciatingly boring. Usually it involved a long, dull trip with her parents and, in more recent years, her baby brother. And she loved them, but she loved them more when she only had to deal with them in small doses. And a whole day of what basically amounted to sight-seeing for her Muggle parents was not nearly small enough. She hated the staring, the pointing, the stopping to marvel at various street peddlers. They were like bloody tourists, Bridget had always thought - even back in her first visit when she was only eleven.

But this was going to be a good day, because it was her first trip to Diagon Alley alone. Her parents had offered to take her, as they always did, but she'd insisted on going by herself. After all, she was legally an adult in the wizard world now and could even apparate. Besides, her father had to work and her mother had to take her brother on a playdate - why should they be put out of their way when Bridget could take care of it?

Her parents had agreed, although she suspected it was somewhat reluctantly. They probably felt some sentimental emotions about their little girl growing up, but Bridget reasoned that the feelings must not have been very strong for them to have given in so easily. But she wasn't going to trouble herself about that - not today.

No, today she was going to spend all day by herself, browsing through the bookstore without interruption, eating when she wanted and going where she wanted. And, she thought, if she ran into somebody she knew from Hogwarts, she wouldn't be embarrassed to see them for once. The thought was almost prophetic, as a few minutes later she spotted someone she knew outside the Quidditch shoppe. "Hey," she said casually, sauntering over as if this wasn't a big deal for her. Because it totally wasn't. "Haven't seen you in awhile."
